Chichkhan River : Hydro-Plant Has Created a Dead Eco-System
The mini hydro-plant shown in the accompanying video is located one kilometre down from the Trchkan Waterfall.
The film shows how the plant is using 99% of the river’s water, permitting only a few drops to flow back.
The river below the plant is essentially a dead eco-system.
Mini hydro-plants are popping up in Armenia like mushrooms. Oftentimes, they are owned and operated by government officials or those with close ties to the government.
Will all Armenia's wild rivers share the same fate of Chichkan?
No wonder the Ministry of the Environment is doing next to nothing to preserve the country’s waterways and the flora and fauna they sustain.
