Azerbaijan has sent a formal letter of protest to Uruguay regarding the recent visit to Artsakh by Jorge Orrico, the speaker of Uruguay parliament. 

Orrico met with Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan while in Stepanakert. The two discussed the development of bi-lateral relations between Artsakh and Uruguay. 

According to Trend News, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said at a briefing on Wednesday that, "Uruguay should realize that such steps are dangerous to the fragile peace process. All should realize that sooner or later Azerbaijan will restore its territorial integrity.”

Abdullayev stated that the Azerbaijani Embassy in Argentina had been instructed to present a protest note to foreign ministry of Uruguay.

Orrico is on an official visit to Armenia at the invitation of Parliamentary Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan.
