Kim Kardashian’s weekend visit to Bahrain to promote a milkshake franchise attracted admirers and protestors.

CNN and BBC reports quote a local newspaper saying that police used tear gas to disperse those angry over Kardashian’s visit to the mainly Shiite nation.

The Millions of Milkshakes is a franchise created and owned by businessman Sheeraz Hasan.

In a Twitter posting on Sunday, Hasan wrote: “What protests? Kim Kardashian is loved by the people of Bahrain.”

The Huffington Post reports that Kardashian posted glowing remarks about Bahrain on her Twitter account, calling it "the prettiest place on earth." It was re-Tweeted by Bahrain's foreign minister.

Kardashian was in Kuwait earlier this week to open another branch of the milkshake shop.
