Erik Davtyan: "The physically impaired have the right to vote as well"

Even though 23 year-old Erik Davtyan has voted in four elections at the same polling station, no one has ever thought of installing a temporary accessibility ramp for the physically impaired on Election Day.

“The stairs present something of a problem but my friends help me out,” said Erik, adding that it doesn’t take all that much to assist those like him to exercise their right to vote.

“The physically impaired are mostly dissuaded from voting. It’s the lack of ramps and the stares we get from some people,” he said.

“I would advise others not to give up and not to be ashamed of anything. We are full citizens like everybody else,” the young man noted, adding that he hoped his vote would help change things, even in a small way.
