Regarding making modifications to the law on “Safeguarding the Equality Rights of Men and Women”, the government has come out in favour of a bill deleting all references to “gender” and related concepts.

The government says its decision is based on concerns expressed by the Armenian Apostolic Church and the public at large.

A separate bill to make modifications to the law had been introduced by Prosperous Armenia Party MO Naira Zohrabyan.

However, the government believes that the bill it has approved will offer a more comprehensive solution to the issue. Thus, Prime Minister Sargsyan opposed the MP’s draft legislation.
