Human Rights Defender: Actions of Some Cops in Yesterday's Protests Were 'Impermissible'

Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (HRD) has labeled the actions of individual police employees during yesterday’s anti-Putin protests as ‘problematic’ and ‘impermissible' in certain cases.

Yerevan police rounded up scores of protesters yesterday who defied the official warnings to stop their march through the streets of Yerevan.

In a statement issued today, Defender Karen Andreasyan says that his staffers visited more than 60 who had been detained and transferred to various police stations in Yerevan.

Andreasyan added that in some cases it was only after the intervention of his representatives that attorneys were allowed to talk to the detainees.

The HRD said his office will present a more comprehensive evaluation of yesterday’s police response to the protests after reviewing the material provided by the police and media reports.
