The Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law) party and party MP Levon Dokholyan say they have sued the Zhoghovourd newspaper for slander, with each demanding 3.5 million AMD in compensation.

At issue is a November 19 article in the newspaper claiming that the Country of Law party was initially set up specifically to carry out the political orders of the ruling government and to garner votes away from the opposition.

The article goes on to say that the party has long since become moribund and no longer has anything relevant to contribute.

MP Dokholyan, in his suit, has listed a number of other newspaper articles he argues are personally defamatory.

The newspaper says it hasn’t received any official statement from the Prosecutor’s Office regarding any legal suit.
