U.S. Company Buys Armenia's Vorotan Hydro-Electric Complex for $250 Million

U.S. energy giant ContourGlobal has purchased three hydro-electric power plants in Armenia in a $250 million deal.

The company has purchased the Vorotan Hydro plants for $180 million and plans to invest an additional $70 million to refurbish the Soviet-era built hydro-plants.

The Vorotan Hydro Cascade complex is a series of three hydro-electric power plants totaling 405 megawatts on the Vorotan River in south-central Armenia.

It accounts for some 15% of Armenia's power capacity.

The long-term deal was signed today in Yerevan between ContourGlobal and the Armenian government.
