Relatives, Press, Barred from "March 1st Seven" Court Room
Today, the trial of the "March 1st Seven" resumed at the Shengavit District Court. The session began with Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan reviewing the motion made by defendant Alexander Arzumanian for the judge to recuse himself. Yesterday, Mr. Arzumanyan complained that relatives of the defendants and press representatives had not been allowed entry into the court room.
Leading Prosecutor Koryun Piroyan, objecting to the motion, called the chamber's attention to the fact that the trial was open to the public and that anyone who wished to could attend. In response, defendant Hakob Hakobyan tersely replied that in reality relatives and the press were denied entry into the court.
Judge Mnatsakanyan's warning not to disrupt the session fell on deaf ears when H. Hakobyan got up and left the court room followed by Souren Sirounyan, Grigor Voskerchyan and Sasoun Mikayelyan. The judge, evidently angered by this display of disrespect shown towards the court, ordered a thirty minute recess.
