International Conference Dedicated to 100th Anniversary of Adana Massacres
The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute will organize an international conference on April 20-21, 2009, dedicated to the centennial anniversary of the Armenian massacres in Adana district of the Ottoman Empire.
An estimated 30,000 Armenians in the province were reported killed in events that coincided with the April 1909 counter-revolution stages by supporters of Sultan Abdul Hamid II who had been forced to restore the Ottoman Constitution as a result of the 1908 Young Turk revolution.
The symposium will take place in Yerevan on April 20-21 and experts in the field from Italy, Hungary, Austria, France, the United States and Sweden will participate. The specialist will present papers on the topic of the Adana massacres, a prelude to the events of 1915, paying specific attention to the underlying causes and consequences of the killings and worldwide reaction of the day.
