Armen Ayvazyan Proposes Resignation of FM Over “Road Map” Fiasco

14_04-a_ayvazyanArmen Ayvazyan, who heads the Ararat Strategic Scientific Center, suggested that the Armenian foreign minister should hand in his resignation to placate the ire of the Armenian people over the recent "road map" declared by the governments of Armenia and Turkey. "On the morning of April 23, 2009, we woke up in another Armenia that was clutched in the strong diplomatic and ideological claws of the enemy. In these conditions, some of the immediate steps that can be taken to lighten the just anger that has surfaced in the depths of the Armenian people would be for the foreign minister to hand in his resignation, a denunciation of the so-called Armenian-Turkish road map and an immediate halt to the defeatist negotiations process now underway. These steps should be taken until Turkey ceases its hostile attitude towards Armenia including its recognition of the Armenian Genocide and halting its assistance to Azerbaijan in the Karabakh issue," stated Mr. Ayvazyan. According to Mr. Ayvazyan, certain top Armenian government officials, neglecting the vital interests of the Armenian people, have accepted a set of Turkish preconditions put on the table long ago. » The pronouncements and assurances voiced by certain top Armenian representatives for domestic consumption clearly are contradicted by the statements of these same officials on the international stage," claims Mr. Ayvazyan. In his estimation, the Armenian government has agreed to the establishment of a committee of Armenian and Turkish historians and that this directly places the historical reality of the Armenian Genocide under question. "It must be stated that the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, that had been proceeding on a successful path, was torpedoed immediately after Armenia allowed itself to be drawn in to the process of  'football diplomacy' that was doomed to failure from the start and during which no government has signed a law recognizing the Genocide," commented Mr. Ayvazyan. Mr. Ayvazyan added that a statement was being prepared outlining these concerns which would appear in the Ararat Center's website and that those who agreed with the statement could sign it as an act of protest.
