Armenia Pulling Out of NATO Military Exercises in Georgia

Yesterday, a report was circulated that Armenia wouldn't be participating in NATO military exercises scheduled to take place in Georgia on May 6. Today, reporters tried to get the reason for the last minute pull out from Deputy Foreign Minister Karineh Ghazinyan and to whether it could be linked to the internal political turmoil now taking place in Georgia. Deputy FM Ghazinyan gave her personal opinion on the matter: "Up until recently it wasn't 100% certain if we were to participate or not. Now, however, the domestic situation in Georgia really complicates things for Armenia. Unlike neighboring Georgia, Armenia's entry into NATO isn't on or agenda but we haven't constantly striven to maintain as close a relationship as possible with that country and we have always participated in such events. However, during our latest negotiations, we even weren't sure about taking part in them or not."
