Internet Chat Conversation Leads to Murder of Gyumri Youth
17 year-old Tigran Tadevosyan from Gyumri met Lida Yedigaryan, also from Gyumri, through the website www.odnoklasniki.ru, an internet chat forum.
In one of their internet conversations, Tigran Tadev.osyan used some derogatory words along the lines of "go, get the ..." Based on these words, the girls relatives beat Tigran mercilessly. Twelve days later the boy died.
On April 14, at 5:30 pm, Tigran's relatives telephoned Lida Yedigaryan and told her that Tigran had been beaten up and was in the Ani precinct police station in Gyumri.
Anichka Tadevosyan, the wife of Tigran's uncle, relates that when she went to the station she saw that the police were having a hard time to keep the boy seated in a chair. At first, the police didn't let her in, so she had to force her way through. "I saw him with his head and face all bruised and beaten. He looked pale and at death's door. My first question to Tigran was who did this to you?" said Anichka.
"A policeman called Ashot Tapaldyan, most likely the precinct chief, answered me instead of Tigran. He told me that the boy had been hungry, fainted and fell down. A medical team treated Tigran on the spot and they too backed up the policeman's version of what happened. The nurse told me they had mended the boy's dislocated shoulder and that the other injuries weren't serious and that I could take the boy home," Anichka continued.
Tigran's mother, Javahir Serobyan, signed a release statement at the station saying that the boy had indeed fallen. She says she signed the document to aviod any further needless inquiry by the police.
"At that moment my only thought was to save my boy. I mistrusted the local police - they couldn't tell the difference between somebody who had been beaten from one who had fallen. Besides, one of the murderers had a relative called M. Tadevosyan in the police department," the boy's mother stated.
In the car on the ride home, Tigran tells his mother that he was beaten by four boys; Sergei, Samvel, Valerik and Edgar, on the orders of his internet girlfriend Lida Yedigaryan.
On hearing this, Tigran's relatives take him to the "White Hospital" in Gyumri. The boy is then placed into a body cast and transferred to the Mikayelyan Medical Center in Yerevan. Tigran remains alive here for another ten days. While in the hospital, the relatives of the boys who beat Tigran come to visit him. During the visit, Tigran mentions the name of Sergei, a boy of one of the visiting relatives, as the one who beat him the most ferociously.
The relatives state that they are willing to do whatever is needed to save the life of Tigran, but ask that he doesn't make a formal complaint. They leave 150,000 drams and $200 at the hospital bed and say that they will return.
Two policemen then appear at the Mikayelyan Hospital and urge Tigran's mother to remove the word "police" from her release statement and write that the boy was picked up off the street. "They started to accuse the Gyumri police of slacking off, Ten minutes later one of them gets a call from Gyumri. Immediately after, they say that they don't want to get their colleagues into hot water. They ask me to write that I picked me boy up from the street," states Javahir Serobyan and adds that she signed a statement written by one of the officers under psychological duress.
On April 26, at 5:40 pm, Tigran Tadevosyan passed away in the Mikayelyan Medical Center.
The medical report of April 27, 2009, reads that Tigran Tadevosyan had received a heavy injury to the skull, bone fracture to the head, and internal bleeding at the base of the skull.
On April 28, Tigran's mother and aunt appeared at the Gyumri Police Department, where a criminal investigation had already started, with a new complaint claim.
According to the police register of May 10, Samvel, one of the attackers and a friend of Lida Yedigaryan, was brought in for questioning. He denied the charges that he was involved in the attack against Tigran.
Gyumri Police Chief S. Shahnazaryan told us over the phone that an exhaustive and rapid investigation was underway to apprehend those responsible. Chief Shahnazaryan promised to reveal other details later on today.
