Arkady Ghukasyan – “Where was Ilham Aliyev hiding during the Karabakh war?”

17_03-a_ghukasyanResponding to recent statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev that he doesn't foresee Nagorno-Karabakh existing outside the territory of Azerbaijan and that there are no discussion on-going regarding Karabakh's status, former NKR President Arkady Ghukasyan responded by stating, "The younger Aliyev, by inheriting Azerbaijan, makes out that he is unaware of many things and that he remembers and hears just as little." The former president, who has also been appointed a special ambassadorial attaché of the RoA, made his statement in response to a question posed by the "Ria Novosti" news agency. "He doesn't see the NKR, nor does he see the democratic development of the NKR from the heights of his dictatorial regime. He doesn't see the lands of the NKR occupied by Azerbaijan nor does he see the hundreds of thousands of Armenian refugees from the various regions of the NKR and Azerbaijan, lands that were ethnically cleansed by his predecessors," Ambassador Ghukasyan added. "Aliyev doesn't heed the calls of the international community to put an end to his bellicose and war-mongering declarations and to pull his sharp shooters from the ceasefire line. He only listens to himself but says that he speaks in the interests of the mediators, Armenia and, most cynically, of the people of Karabakh," he noted. "Even while speaking of peace, Aliyev threatens war. Azerbaijan has unleashed war once already. One should ask Aliyev, since he makes these bellicose remarks, where he was hiding when men his age were being sent to the front as cannon fodder?"
