Statement of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) regarding the protocols leading to a normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations:
1. The normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations is in the best interests of the two countries and their peoples and is in the best interests of regional peace and security.
2. These protocols are a giant leap forward towards the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey and mutual relations in general.
3. The stipulation regarding the creation of an inter-governmental panel of historians, which questions the reality of the Armenian Genocide, is unacceptable.
4. Also raising concern is the condition that the parliaments of the two countries must ratify the documents since it allows Serzh Sargsyan to share responsibility of the creation of the sub-committee with the RoA National Assembly while allowing Turkey to delay the ratification process, arguing that the Karabakh conflict has yet to be resolved, and thus postponing the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border.
