Republic of Armenia Marks 18th Anniversary of Independence

Today, way back in 1991,  Armenians voted for independence from the Soviet Union in a referendum. Close to 100% of those taking part voted to sever all ties with the Soviet empire. Two days later, on September 23, Armenia declared itself to be a sovereign, independent republic. Interestingly enough, the United Nations celebrates International Peace Day today as well.
