Head of State Environmental Inspectorate and Deputy Arrested on Bribe Taking
The Head of the RoA Nature Protection Ministry’s Environmental Inspectorate, Tigran Grigoryan, and his deputy, Arsen Petrosyan, were arrested yesterday for taking a 5 million AMD bribe.
Arsen Petrosyan, the Deputy Chief of the Environmental Inspectorate of the RoA Ministry of Nature Protection, had demanded a 5 million AMD bribe from a company to conceal environmental violations and to reduce the amount of fines the firm could have been hit with. Mr. Petrosyan was found to be in possession of 1,210,000 AMD. He had already transferred the balance, 3,790,000 AMD, to his boss Tigran Grigoryan. He was also found to be carrying 2 million AMD and $1,000 in his pocket.
His boss, Tigran Grigoryan, in addition to his share of the 5 million bribe, was also in possession of 3.8 million AMD and a total of $33,000, wrapped neatly in a plastic envelope.
