The Government today organised a meeting of the Candle Project Steering Committee, which was presided over by the Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan.  The project seeks to set up "Candle" – a third generation synchrotron light source with 3 GEV of energy, which will contribute to the long-term development of the leading scientific areas in the country and will serve as an engine for the science-based sectors of the economy. Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan noted that the Government had taken a political decision to partially finance the project if other sources of funding are secured.  During the meeting, various issues were discussed including the current state of the Candle Project, its business plan and the assessment of its potential impact on the economy as well as the legal status and organizational structure of the project team and the possible location of the center.
