Organization Encourages Armenians from West to Move to Armenia, Artsakh

To mark the 20th anniversary of independence, a new project has been initiated, encouraging 3,500 Armenians from the West to move to Armenia.

In a recent press release, The Armenia3500 Project  says it has created an informative website for those contemplating the move to Armenia or Karabakh.

The group says that the target goal of 3,500 Armenians is based on the 3,500 year old history of Armenia.

The new organization states that due to the slower pace of life, the rich cultural scene, the much lower cost of living in Armenia, and the relative affluence of many Armenians from the West, most Westerners making the move to today’s Republic of Armenia or the Republic of Mountainous Karabakh would experience a much better quality of life.

“Tens of thousands of Armenians have moved to Armenia in the past two decades from the Middle East, and now it’s time for Westerners to make the move on a larger scale,” the organization claims.

Assuming each Armenian from the West brings an average of US$ 50,000 with them to their homeland to buy homes, invest in businesses and to simply live, the total sum that the 3,500 bring would equal US$ 175 million, the group points out.

In addition, the knowledge of western practices, organizations, businesses and individuals would allow new opportunities for business and export.

@Sam I agree, not all Armenians are wealthy, actually, unless I am missing something, most of us are quite under financial stress!! 50,000$??? have they lost their mind? if I had that amount of money you really think I would go and drain it down to the mafia pockets. Ok. since there is no official support (government and diasporan), I say let's team up, and set up kibutz style settlements. Land in Artsakh we can get for free (I am sure), there are some free houses as well which need som maintenance, we can do animal husbandry, agriculture and maybe some ecotourism, beekeeping? If we are team banded, then it will be difficult for the mafia to nail us down, alone we will end up ripped off. So, anyone interested in vilage life??

To comments 4 & 5 - I think you miss the point. The point is for enough Armenians from the west to move to Armenia to potentially make a political difference. To comment 6 (rahageets) I say that only the housing page has any links to Armeniapedia, and there is a very respectable amount of info on the site. If someone is curious about the overall process, this will give them a decent idea. And if they're serious, they should of course spend some time in Armenia, or ask questions. Nowhere does it say that every single person will bring $50,000 and that that will buy them a home and a business. Why such negativity? It's an idea, a concept, and if enough people sign up, it could create a huge change...

I think that this is a great idea, but in order for Armenians from the West to move to Armenia the Oligarchy and their mafia-like complexes has to leave the country. The reason why Armenians in the West are so successfulk is because they are the economies in those countries are economically free, open, and there are no barriers to trade. The same needs to happen in Armenia before Armenians are asked to give up their comfortabe lives in West only to move and live in a country where your opportunities are limited by goverment controlled businesses that are against free-competition.

The idea is commendable and would take time to develop. The first step might be eliminating the bias towards Western Armenians by not banning (or adulterating)the Western Armenian spelling of their names and claiming that Eastern Armenian is the official language of the(Hayastan) land.
