At a press conference today in Yerevan, representatives of several environmental and civiv organizations said they were preparing to launch a class action suit in the courts to stop uranium mining in Armenia’s Syunik Marz. Ten organizations, including EcoLur, and Transparency International, have already agreed to participate in the class action. A petition with over 11,000 signatures opposing exploratory uranium mining has been forwarded to the Armenian government. In addition, the local community councils of Kapan, Lernadzor and Kajaran have called for a halt to the mining project.
