Tigran Karapetyan - Vows to Fight On

Tigran Karapetyan, whose heads Armenia’s People’s Party, said today that the staff of his ALM TV station would be taking the State TV and Radio Commission to court, seeking an overturn of the recent Commission tender that voted against granting a broadcast license to the station. "I was the one who advised them to take such a tact. Personally, I don’t want to get bogged down in such a jumbled process," said Karapetyan. "We will protest the unjust political decision of the Commission with all the resources at our disposal," he declared.

He added that the station would be working with other TV stations that were refused a broadcasting license such as A1+ and Gyumri’s Gala TV. Karapetyan however said that he had no plans to cooperate with the political opposition "Let the HAK (Armenian National Congress) come and work with us if it wants to," he declared. The businessman turned politician and TV owner said that 84 families would be left without a stable income when the station goes off the air. Karapetyan has scheduled a public demonstration for January 19 in Yerevan, one day before ALM’s final day of programming. Demonstrations in other Armenian cities will take place on preceeding days.
