Two Yerevan Senior Police Supervisors Suspended After Taking $550 Bribe

A senior police supervisors attached to the Mashtots Police Department in Yerevan were taken into custody yesterday while taking a bribe.

Police report that the two senior supervisors, Major A. Haroutyunyan and Lieutenant Colonel H. Khachatryan were caught in the act of taking 80,000 AMD (US$200) -  part of a $600 bribe they demanded from a citizen who had requested a document to be presented to the passport division verifying his residency.

The bribe amount had been haggled down to $550 and the citizen handed over $200 and 50,000 AMD before the final $200 payment was to be made.

The citizen reported the bribe demand to the internal security department.

The two supervisors have been suspended from duty pending an investigation.
