Lake Sevan Fish Farming Outfit Gets VAT Payment Deferment
The Armenian government today extended the deadline, by which Sevan Ishkhan CJSC must pay VAT on goods imported between April 15, 2015-December 31, 2016 exceeding 200 million AMD in value, to April of 2018
Sevan Ishkhan is planning to invest around 3 billion AMD (US$635,000) in a fish farming scheme in Lake Sevan, once prized for its endemic (Salmo ischchan), a salmonid fish related to the brown trout.
The company was formed by Armenia’s Ministry of Agriculture
In April 2014, a committee tasked with assessing the issue of restoring the Ishkhan fish species in Lake Sevan told a government cabinet session that two of the four sub-species were forever extinct. The two extinct strains are the winter bakhtak (Salmo ischchan ischchan) and the bojak (Salmo ischchan danilewskii).
The other two strains -the summer bakhtak and gegharkuni - are mainly propagated by hatcheries and the committee confesses there is no natural reproduction.
