“I’m a do-gooder. I help people flee Armenia”

Twice a week, buses and minivans depart from Yerevan’s Davit of Sassoun train station for Russia. The manager of the company selling tickets, a man who introduced himself as Bedo, was frank when answering our questions. “I’m a do-gooder. I help people flee Armenia. Sometimes, when a passenger doesn’t have enough for the ticket, I tell them not to worry. Just so long as they get a seat on the bus and leave Armenia.”

Dear friend: leaving the country is not the solution. One can stay, take up the challenges and thrive. Only weak people find easy way out, leave the country and escape from challenges. PS: Please do not think I do not understand the situation. Each year I spend 6 months of my time inside Armenia try to work with people. Situation in Armenia is much better than what you will see in some African and South East Asian countries.

People are different. Some people are inborn fighters, some aren't. Some people like challenges, others don't. Some like thinking and creating like scientists and artists, but are unable to withstand brute force, or fight those with pathological mentality. If they choose to leave - that is their best option. Some others choose to stay - that is their best way to fulfill themselves. You can't expect every decent citizen to fight an armed and hardened gangster! I respect everybody's choice, including yours and mine.
