
New Armenia Front Claims its Supporters were Attacked in Yerevan's Liberty Square
A group of some 15 members of the Volunteer Defenders of the Country Union (Yrkrapah), today attacked those engaged in a sit-in, at Yerevan’s Liberty Square, opposed to proposed changes to Armenia’s constitution, this according to the New Armenia Salvation Front (NASF).
The NSAF claims the attackers, members of the Gyumri and Etchmiadzin branches of the Yrkrapah Union, were led by Yura Aleksanyan, a leader of the Gyumri Yrkrapah group.
Police on the scene intervened and took the attackers into custody.
The opposition sit-in at Liberty Square has been going on since December 1when a public rally and march took place opposing the December 6 constitutional change referendum.
