Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan today in Yerevan met with Dr. Shamshad Akhtar Detho, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, an office equivalent to the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.  

The two discussed issues regarding Armenia’s cooperation with the Commission.

President Sargsyan expressed Armenia’s readiness to strengthen relations while at the same time noting that Asia and the Pacific face a number of challenges strongly hindering economic development.

Sargsyan stressed the need to formulate a comprehensive agenda that would be able to meet these challenges, adding that Armenia is ready to provide its modest contribution to such work.

The two also discussed issues related to countries that lack any access to the sea and steps being taken by the Commission in this regard.
