EU Assists 3,000 Business Women in Armenia

To promote the integration of Armenian women into the business community, since the beginning of 2011, an EU-funded project has provided assistance to women who are engaged in business. On 18 November 2011 the "Entrepreneurship as a tool for raising the role of women in society" project will hold its closing training session and present final results at 2/1 Proshyan street, 2nd floor, Yerevan.

The main aim of the project has been to create equal conditions for women entrepreneurs doing business in Armenia. Through awareness raising, education, rule of law promotion, financial assistance and business support, the project has worked to integrate women into the business community.  Activities included trainings, professional advice, information sharing, as well as components of financial assistance. The amount of EU financial assistance to this project is EUR 120,650.

As a result, more than 800 women have participated in professional training courses organised in order to help them start their own business, they have received professional information and advice on how to do business, as well as support for their activities with various issues of business development. Support areas included business plan development, consultations, tax and customs information, business registration, marketing, management, financial resource mobilization support, as well as business environment related issues. The project has helped improve not only the stakeholders' socio-economic conditions, but also contributed to changing public perception of the role of women entrepreneurship.

The target group of the project was women who have already started their own businesses and are in need of advisory and information support, small companies that have problems with financial resource mobilization for developing their business, as well as those women who want to start their own business. It was implemented in all 10 regions of Armenia and Yerevan and provided assistance to over 3,000 women who are or wish to engage in business.
