On December 12, 2011, the Deputy Prosecutor General A. Danielyan met the representatives of the protest held in front of the RA General Prosecutor’s Office organized by “Coalition on Violence against Women” and the victim Mariam Gevorgyan.

The latter gave to the Deputy Prosecutor General a letter addressed to the Prosecutor General expressing their concern regarding the criminal case initiated on the violence used against M. Gevorgyan and M.B. during their marriage.

The head of the Department for Crimes against the Individual V. Shahinyan and the prosecutor who supervises the investigation of the criminal case participated in the meeting and gave detailed description of the evidence obtained during the investigation, the conclusions of the forensic examinations, and the interrogations of the victims as well as their face interrogations with their former husband D. Ziroyan.

A. Danielyan said that the mentioned criminal case was under the direct supervision of the RA General Prosecutor’s Office and tasked to find out the real circumstances of the criminal case. The Deputy Prosecutor General also informed that the main defendant H. Mikayelyan was arrested in St. Petersburg and would be taken to Armenia on December 12, 2011.

On December 9, 2011, the Deputy Prosecutor General M. Sargsyan tasked the prosecutor of Ararat region to resume the investigation of the criminal case and to take into consideration the media publications as there are new facts and circumstances in the articles which could be important for the final results of the criminal case.

A. Danielyan assured that the RA General Prosecutor’s Office would pursue the goal of carrying out objective and comprehensive investigation and the former decisions would not constrain the preliminary investigation body.
