State Revenue Committee Official Wants to Mine for Metals in Syunik

Marat Duryan, who heads the Investigation Department of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee has applied for an exploratory license for the Soflou-Lernashen mine field.

Last October Hetq wrote that a company 90% owned by Duryan, Premium Mining, had received geological survey rights for a site in Armenia’s Tavoush Province.

It seems that Duryan has been bitten by the mining bug and wants to expand operations.

The Soflou-Lernashen field is in Syunik Province, in the Sisian area.

Premium Mining estimates it will cost AMD 450 million to explore the site for possible metal extraction.

A public hearing on the company’s plans is scheduled for noon on October 25 at the Sisian Municipality.
