Yerevan Live: “Velvet Revolution” Rally

Seda Ghukasyan

The fourth rally calling for the departure of Serzh Sargsyan as Armenia’s prime minister kicked off today with Yelk Alliance MP Nikol Pashinyan and his wife Anna Hakobyan welcoming the crowds with a shower of rose petals.

Pashinyan, who also serves on the Civil Contract political party board, has called for a ‘velvet revolution’ in Armenia via peaceful civil disobedience.

Throughout the past week, people opposed to Sargsyan’s government, have blocked major intersections in the Armenian capital and have barred entrance to various government buildings.

Police say 233 people have been detained today in Yerevan as of 6pm.
