Nikol Pashinyan, the only declared candidate in today’s parliamentary vote to elect the next prime minister of Armenia, has posted a Facebook video saying that the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is attempting to undermine the election of the “people’s candidate” for the post.
Earlier, RPA spokesperson Edward Sharmazanov told ArmenPress that his party hasn’t yet reached a decision on who it will vote for in the election scheduled for later today in the parliament.
The RPA holds a majority of seats in the National Assembly.
Pashinyan, who’s declared himself the “people’s candidate”, must garner a simple majority of votes.
Pashinyan has called on his supporters to assemble in Yerevan’s Republic Square today and make their voices heard.
