Yerevan Court Releases Sasna Dzrer Defendant Vardges Gevoryan from Detention

A Yerevan court today released Vardges Gevorgyan, a defendant in the Sasna Dzrer case, from detention based on the personal guarantees that he would not flee prosecution provided by Tsarukyan Alliance MPs Gevorg Petrosyan and Vahe Enfiajyan.

Ludwig Avetisyan, Gevorgyan’s public defender, had petitioned the court to release his client from detention, arguing that Gevorgyan is an Artsakh War veteran.

The lawyer confessed that Gevorgyan wanted to help the Sasna Dzrer group when it seized a Yerevan police building in July 2016, but that he was serving on the frontline in Artsakh. (Many war vets went to Artsakh to volunteer after the April 2016 “Four Day War”.
