Armenia Recalls Its Belarus Ambassador
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has appointed Armen Ghevondyan to replace Oleg Yesayan as Armenian Ambassador to Belarus.
When asked, Pashinyan spokesman Arman Yeghoyan neither confirmed nor refuted speculation that Yesayan’s replacement has anything to do with the fact that Belarus, in June, sold its new Polonaise multiple launch rocket system to Azerbaijan.
During a July 20 press conference, Pashinyan said that he raised the issue of Belarus selling its Polonaise multiple launch rocket system to Azerbaijan during a recent meeting he had with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.
Belarus and Armenia are members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Azerbaijan pulled out of CSTO in 1999.
