Inspection Underway at Kajaran's Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine
Armenia’s Environmental Protection and Mining Inspectorate has launched a two-week investigation into the operations of the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) based in the southern town of Kajaran in Syunik Province.
The investigation comes on the heels of administrative proceedings against the company for dumping tailings waste into the Norashenik River.
In May, newly elected Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ordered that the operations of 28 mining companies in the country be investigated.
The inspectorate first inspected the Amulsar mine.
