Armenian Transportation Minister and Chines Ambassador Discuss Work on North-South Highway

Acting Armenian Minister of Transportation, Communications and IT Hakob Arshakyan discussed matters related to Tranche 3 of the "North-South Road Corridor Investment Program" with Chinese Ambassador Tian Erlong.

The roadway aims to connect the southern and northern borders of Armenia by means of 556 km-long Meghri- Yerevan - Bavra highway.

The Chinese Sinohydro Corporation Limited is the contractor for reconstruction and improvement of Tranche 3, the Lanjik-Gyumri section.

Arshakyan, according to a government press release, confessed that obstacles had surfaced on this section of the roadway, but that work had returned to normal.

He did call for additional resources to be employed, saying that work deadlines would be reviewed if needed.

Ambassador Erlong asked about the possibility of Chinese participation in Tranche 4 of the project, saying that China is ready to discuss all cooperation proposals.

Ambassador Erlong said that China places great importance on the role played by Armenia in linking China with Eurasian Economic Union nations.
