Fewer Armenians Applying For Asylum in Germany, Says DIE LINKE Party Official
According to André Hahn, Deputy Chairman of Germany’s DIE LINKE (The Left) party, the decreasing number of Armenian citizens now applying for asylum in Germany is partially due to the fact that the German government now classifies Armenia as a “safe” country given recent political developments.
Hahn, escorted by German Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler, in Yerevan today met with Armen Ghazaryan, who heads Armenia’s Migration Service.
The two, according to an Armenian government press release, discussed a number of issues including recent trends in the number of Armenians seeking asylum in Germany and how many are being rejected.
The sides also discussed the process of returning Armenian citizens to Armenia and what’s being done to reintegrate them into society.
