In this interview with Hetq, Francois-Xavier de Donnea, the special coordinator for the OSCE short-term observer mission to Armenia, talks about the structure and undertakings of the OSCE elections observation mission, the responsibilities of observers at polling stations, the importance of free and fair democratic parliamentary elections and the methods undertaken to prevent voting irregularities in subsequent elections.
I believe that these elections are the last opportunity for changing the reality in Armenia. If the three political forces – Armenian National Congress, Prosperous Armenia and the ARF – can get their act together and guarantee free and fair elections, then the outcome will be a positive one.
Rare were the attempts of the press to dig deeper and connect the dots, especially when it came to the financial statements of government officials whose meager salaries could not jive with the large amounts of reported revenues and cash holdings
