Armenian MPs Propose Easing of TV Alcohol and Cigarette Advertising
The Armenian government today reviewed a bill introduced by a number of MPs that would ease advertising laws now on the books for alcohol and cigarettes.
The bill would replace the total ban for such ads appearing on electronic media outlets with specific hours of the day when alcohol adverts could appear.
Sponsors of the bill, members of the ruling Republican Party, argue that a partial ban would serve as an additional source of revenue for TV stations.
Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan suggested that the government once again sit down with the bill sponsors and work out an acceptable final draft, implying that the current draft is not acceptable.
