Yelk Alliance MPs Issue Report on Police Violating Demonstrators’ Rights

Yelk Alliance MPs have visited police stations and places where many peaceful demonstrators have been taken during the last days.

The MPs record cases when police unlawfully ill-treated peaceful demonstrators while detaining them, violating numerous rights, such as the right of personal freedom, fair trial, respect for privacy, inhuman treatment, freedom of association and expression.

Also, many demonstrators have been subjected to violence by unknown people in civilian clothes, who seem to have the consent of police, and many vehicles without state license numbers have been involved in the process of detaining the demonstrators, while criminal cases have not yet been initiated against those who were exposed in obvious provocations on April 17.

Yelk Alliance MPs also note the professional work of journalists at the hottest points of demonstrations these days, who are sometimes subjected to violence by police and people in civilian clothes.

"We express our concern about the above-mentioned facts and demand from the Prosecutor's Office, the Police and the Investigative Committee to take immediate action to detect and punish all those who have violated the rights of peaceful demonstrators and journalists. Once again, we stress that we express our solidarity with peaceful demonstrators. We are closely watching the ongoing processes and respond to every case of violence,” reads the Yelk Alliance faction report.
