The RA Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan on July 20, 2011 made a request to the RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan offering to discuss the issue of appropriateness for Gurgen Martirosyan, the Mayor of Gavar, Gegharkuniq region to continue to hold his position taking into consideration the facts revealed during the investigation of the criminal case initiated by the RA Special Investigation Service.

In particular, the investigation of the criminal case has revealed that Gurgen Martirosyan, the Mayor of Gavar, Gegharkuniq region was informed that his brothers Aram Martirosyan and Arthur Martirosyan and relative Hrachya Petrosyan made an attempt to murder the citizens of the same town Hakob Hovhannisyan, Hovsep Hovhannisyan and Spartak Zargaraghoyan near "Partez" shop on the Azatutyun street. G. Martirosyan tried to help them to escape from the law enforcement bodies.

According to the preliminary investigation body, Gurgen Martirosyan concealed a grave crime by concealing the criminals, as well as the tools which had not been previously promised and he was accused according to the RA Criminal Code Article 334, part 1.

Pursuant to the Point 6 of the Resolution "On Announcing General Amnesty on the Occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Independence Declaration of the Republic of Armenia" adopted on May 26, 2011 by the National Assembly of Armenia, the criminal cases initiated for committing crimes that are punished for the terms of up to 3 years of imprisonment are suspended.

Gurgen Martirosyan asked to stop the criminal prosecution against him based on the adoption of Amnesty as the part 1 of the Article 334 of the RA Criminal Code states punishment with imprisonment for the terms of up to 2 years and on July 8, 2011 the criminal prosecution against him was stopped.

The RA Prosecutor General informed the Prime Minister about the deed done by Gurgen Martirosyan and offered to discuss the issue of appropriateness for him to continue to hold his position.

"Aram Martirosyan, Arthur Martirosyan and Hrachya Petrosyan have been charged and the part of the criminal case initiated against them has been separated and sent to the Court," Prosecutor General's Office reports.
