No Basis for Snap Elections Right Now
While the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) constantly calls for snap parliamentary elections as the only way out of the domestic political crisis, as the umbrella organization sees it, Armenian Republican Party MP Sukias Avetisyan stated today that the HAK is always on the lookout for problems to substantiate its demands and give itself a degree of credibility.
"I see no basis to call snap elections of any kind," MP Avetisyan said.
ARF MP Ara Nranyan said that the HAK demands were an attempt to try and modify the current scenario with its wishes, adding that for snap elections to take place there must first be a corresponding maturation of civil society.
"There must be a reshuffling of political forces and today this hasn’t yet occurred. The process is underway, however, and I believe that may the next round of elections a serious shake-up will have occurred," MP Nranyan said.
