HAK Coordinator - Events of March 1, 2008 Clear to All

Disagrees with call by Raffi Hovannisian to question all three Armenian presidents At a press conference today, Heritage Party Deputy President Ruben Hakobyan stated that when the party was discussing cooperation with HAK (the opposition Armenian National Congress headed by Levon Ter-Petrosyan), the former only wanted to broach the mistakes as of 1998. All the while, according to Hakobyan, the basis of fraudulent elections was set down a few years earlier, in 1995. Thus, can it be inferred if the HAK wasn’t looking to avoid a discussion of the mistakes it had made. When asked this question by Hetq, HAK Coordinator Levon Zurabyan said his organization had made no such demand. "The principles of cooperation were laid out in the party’s declaration. All those forces that accept those principles are able to enter into cooperation with us," he said. In response to reporters’ questions about the fact that Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian had stated that all three presidents of Armenia should be questioned regarding the events of March 1, 2008, Zurabyan said that he placed no real importance on the statement and that HAK’s view of March 1 was known to all. "It is already clear that those events constituted a crime conducted by the regime." Zurabyan added that he saw no need for an inquiry proposed by Hovannisian. "It will expose nothing until the time that the current regime is ousted from power," he concluded.
