Market Director – Horse Meat Not Sold in Vanadzor

A few days ago, local police received a report that horse meat was being sold as beef along Grigor Lusavorich Street in the town of Vanadzor. The story goes that back in November, a man named Armen, purchased 15 horses from various villages in Lori Marz and proceeded to sell the meat for 1,500 – 2,000 AMD per kilogram. The same report claimed that the same man also sold horse meat at 1,500 AMD to individuals at the Vanadzor market, who in turn resold the meat at upwards of 2,000 AMD. Hamlet Virabyan, who heads the Food Safety and Veterinary Inspectorate in Lori, yesterday refuted the allegations at a ppress conference. Also on hand was Gevorg Shahinyan, Director of Vanadzor-Market, the company who operates the market "I categorically refute allegations that horse meat has been sold," said Mr. Shahinyan. "Maybe a kilo or two could be sold on the sly. But not whole sides of a horse," added Shahinyan.
