Chief of Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan Comes Clean on Properties He Owns

Minister, Chief of RA Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan (pictured) says that he didn't accumulate his properties during the years he worked in the executive branch of government.

Responding to a question by Hetq on how he accumulated 6 apartments, 1 house, and 1 dacha, which he declared, Harutyunyan said he has no secrets on how he acquired his properties. He said, if he declared them, it means he has absolute confidence that there's no problem. "I declared everything — absolutely everything," he said.

Then, he described in detail: "I don't want to enumerate the one room of the communal apartment in Moscow, the share of which I received through my uncle. He bequeathed it to me and living there till now is my aunt [the wife of his uncle]. I think that you probably won't be interested in my grandma's house, the unfinished house, which again was bequeathed to me. My grandma acquired that house in the 70s, and it was bequeathed to me before I got into politics. Probably also won't interest you is the room where I lived since I was 8 years old, which is also considered my property. I'm sure, also not of interest to you is the plot of land that I have in Dilijan: I acquired it at an auction, when a few hundred citizens were participating in it.

"Probably of interest to you are two properties: the house I currently live in and the apartment where I moved to when I was a minister. That house was my father, Edonis Harutyunyan's house, and everyone knows that it's located on Tumanyan St., across from Anush deli, and after my father's death, we decided to sell it and buy an apartment for me. We sold that house and moved, and the house where I live now, is in Davtashen. I acquired it before I became a minister, again through an auction — and for a trifling amount because that area was considered one of the most uninteresting areas. I bought the land with three of my friends: one of my neighbors is my friend; the other, my other friend.

"I purchased all this when I had not made the move to the executive body of state service."

As for rumors that Harutyunyan has property also on Yerevan's Northern Avenue, he denied this, saying he has no property on Northern Avenue.
