Non-Ruling Parties to Vote Against 2013 Budget Performance

The "quartet" of four non-ruling parties — Armenian National Congress (HAK), Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), Heritage Party, and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, ARF-D) — will vote against the 2013 budget performance, said BHK faction secretary Naira Zohrabyan following the closed-door meeting of the four parties earlier today. "The quartet discussed the question of expressing a common position on the budget performance. Since all the parties of the quartet voted against last year's budget, we decided to vote against the last year's budget performance," she said.

Zohrabyan mentioned that the list of joint demands, which will be presented to the new government, was confirmed at the meeting. "At the last meeting we agreed that each of the political parties would present those problems and serious challenges that exist in the country, and each member party of the quartet presented its approaches. I have to say, they were almost identical; that is, we all placed importance on those challenges that the country faces, that require a solution. Our package of issues, which currently are ten [in number] and a little more, which we are formulating as urgent, as a demand, will be presented to the government. At the next meeting of the quartet we will have the final draft of the joint demands, and naturally, we will move forward with our plan of action," she said. As for what the issues are, Zohrabyan declined from saying, explaining she does not have the authority to do so.

According to her, there is agreement in the quartet to begin a series of joint actions. "Yes, there is consensus in the quartet to hold a joint rally, but final adjustments regarding the dates will be made at the next meeting," she said. The MP added that the quartet condemns the unlawful act of MPs voting for others, thus together they will try through proposing legislation or other mechanisms to address also this issue, bringing the matter to the field of legislative responsibility.
