Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) claims that it has uncovered the largest shipment of illegal drugs this year.

Vahram Gurokhlyan, of the SRC’s Pre-Clearance Control Department, says that employees at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport prevented the export of around eight kilos of drugs.

In the first incident, they intercepted a package destined for Canada containing 5.5 kilos that had been sent by an Iranian citizen.

Suspecting that another shipment was in the works, employees of the National Security Service intercepted a package of 3 kilos sent by the same person.

The SRC says that the largest shipment ever stopped by Armenian law enforcement was exactly two years ago when eleven kilos of illegal drugs was being smuggled into Armenia at the Meghri border crossing.
