Genocide Denialism : Petition Against the Decision of the European Court of Human Rights

The European Court of Human Rights on Dec. 17, 2013 found that the right of Doğu Perinçek to freedom of expression had been violated when a court in Switzerland found him guilty of racial discrimination for publicly denying that the Ottoman Empire had perpetrated the crime of genocide against the Armenian people in 1915 and the following years.

Perinçek had described the idea of an Armenian genocide as an “international lie”.

In its ruling, (Perinçek v. Switzerland) the European Court found that Mr. Perinçek, who during various conferences in Switzerland, had described the Armenian genocide as an “international lie”, had not committed an abuse of his rights within the meaning of Article 17 of the Convention.

Perinçek is co-founder of the Talaat Committee (the Turkish “Hitler”), a ruse created by Ankara to export its denialist theses to Europe and beyond, Dogu Perincek had appealed against a decision pronounced by the Swiss courts, fining him twice for his denialist statements.

At present he is imprisoned in Turkey for taking part in the attempted coup by the Ergenekon organisation (which did not prevent Ankara from defending him before the ECHR in this particular case), Dogu Pericenk had indeed claimed that the “Armenian Genocide” was an “international lie” at a series of meetings in Switzerland.

These statements, offensive against the memory of the victims and defamatory against their descendants, were condemned under Swiss law on the repression of denialism.
