Another Demonstration Against Cash Registers

Once again demonstrators gathered outside the Government Building in Yerevan to protest against the use of cash registers at various market places and food stores in Yerevan. The first such public protest toook place on January 19th. First to arrive on the scene were employees from the Malatya and Rosia markets and they were soon joined by employees from the "Armenia" supermarket and the "Hraztan" food pavillion. One of the protestors, Mrs. Anoush stated, "We demand that all cash registers be removed and that the law be reviewed. Another protestor named Gagik, who had been permittted entry into the Government Building to discuss the matter with officials on January 19, stated that the previous demonstration had been essentially neglected and that no answers from the government had been forthcoming. Gagik stated that the protest would continue until the laws are modified and that, "we will not conduct buusiness under such conditions." During the demonstration Deputy Armen Martirosyan from the "Heritage Party" approached the crowd to get more information on the issues involved. However, he made no proposals and concluded, "It is the government that is responsible for all such matters."
