RoA Ombudsman Has No Jurisdiction Regarding Calcutta Developments
Hetq telephoned the RoA Human Rights Ombudsman, Armen Harutyunyan, to get his take on the situation unfolding at the Calcutta Armenian Philanthropic Academy. Mr. Harutyunyan’s office responded that he has no official jurisdiction to get involved in the matter, given that according to the RoA Constitution the church is not a state body.
When we asked if the Ombudsman couldn’t get involved, given that the students are citizens of Armenia, his office stated that even if the students directly wrote to Mr. Harutyunyan he could only relay their protests to the Catholicos.
