President Serzh Sargsyan today received the credentials of Jean-Michel Oughourlian, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Armenia. Mr. Oughourlian, born in Beirut, is an acclaimed neuropsychiatrist and psychologist, as well as writer and philosopher, recognized both in France and the United States for his collaboration with Rene Girard and his work on the mimetic theory of desire. He is currently the President of the Association of Doctors of the American Hospital of Paris. The Sovereign Military Order of Malta, (Order of Malta or Knights of Malta for short) is a Roman Catholic order based in Rome, Italy and the world's oldest surviving order of chivalry. The Sovereign Military Order of Malta is widely considered a sovereign subject of international law.
